CHANDIGARH: Two days after the reported kidnapping of a two-year-old girl, Edda, from a Sector 22 hotel, the police are yet to make a breakthrough in the case.
Accusing the cops of lax investigation, the girl's parents - Priya and Harish Arora, residents of Janakpuri, Delhi - said the police let the crucial time slip away.
"We had received a ransom call on Tuesday.

And we again received it at 9.50am on Wednesday, following which the kidnapper had switched off his phone. Both the calls were made from the same number. More than 11 hours have passed since the call, but the police have failed to trace the accused," said a distraught Priya, who is into share market business.
Priya, Harish and their daughter had come to Chandigarh on Monday along with Jagpal Baniwal, who too is a resident of Janakpuri. Baniwal, an associate of Priya, is also into share market business. The four were staying at a Sector 22 hotel. Priya said, "Baniwal had told us that there were some prospective clients and business opportunities in Chandigarh."
Alleging that Baniwal had kidnapped their daughter, the couple said he took the girl out to play, but never returned. Priya said, "On Tuesday, he sought a ransom of Rs 1 crore. Later, he reduced the amount to Rs 60 lakh."
The police said they were verifying the claims and that the identity of the kidnapper was yet to be ascertained.
Priyaranjan, a friend of Aroras, said, "Instead of acting promptly, the cops asked the girl's family to trace the kidnapper in Janakpuri and inform them about it. Her parents were made to spend hours at the police station. And even though we have given all the required details to the police, including the address and the phone number of the kidnapper, they have failed to make any progress."
Refusing to divulge details of the case, the station house officer of Sector 17 police station, Ram Gopal, said, "We cannot say much about it."
Deputy superintendent of police (central) Ashish Kapoor said, "The kidnapper will be arrested soon."
