Rs 1,463cr link road to unclog traffic at key junctions
Mohali: With the Union government approving Rs 1,463.9 crore for construction of a six-lane, access-controlled greenfield spur linking the Ambala-Chandigarh section of NH-205A with the Zirakpur Bypass in Punjab, commuters can expect smoother traffic flow at key urban junctions across Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula. The announcement was made by Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari through a social media post on Thursday. The proposed corridor, a crucial component of the Tricity Ring Road project, is expected to divert traffic away from densely populated stretches and ease bottlenecks.
The project is likely to benefit major highways, particularly NH-44, NH-205A and NH-152. It will also provide faster and more seamless connectivity to Himachal Pradesh, especially the Shimla region, thereby reducing travel time for commuters and tourists. The improved link is expected to boost regional economic integration by facilitating smoother movement of goods and passengers between Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.Union minister of state Ravneet Singh Bittu described the approval as a transformative step under the Tricity Ring Road initiative. He said the project would help decongest Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, enhance road safety, reduce pollution levels and provide quicker access to Himachal Pradesh. The project is seen as a major infrastructure milestone aligned with the Centre's push for world-class connectivity and infrastructure-led growth. Once completed, the greenfield spur is expected to strengthen the region's transport network and support long-term urban and economic development.Box: Part of Tricity Ring Road project Project is a key component of the Tricity Ring Road aimed at easing congestion in Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula Corridor expected to divert traffic from densely populated stretches and reduce bottlenecks Will improve connectivity with Himachal Pradesh, especially Shimla, cutting travel time for commuters and tourists Major highways to benefit include NH-44, NH-205A and NH-152 MoS Ravneet Singh Bittu says project will enhance road safety, reduce pollution and decongest Tricity Seen as a major infrastructure milestone aligned with the Centre's push for world-class connectivity and growthMSID:: 128560201 413 |
