Road rage: Two youths attacked with axe, datar

Mohali: In an incident of road rage, a group of youths riding a Thar allegedly attacked two friends travelling in a Fortuner with sharp-edged weapons. The incident took place in Phase 11, Mohali.The victims sustained serious injuries and were admitted in the civil hospital, Phase 6, for treatment. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against five unidentified accused and launched an investigation.Complainant Ekampreet Singh, a resident of Phase 11, said he was travelling in his Fortuner SUV with his friend Maninder on the night of May 25 when a Chandigarh-registered Thar approaching from Phase 10 overtook their vehicle. After some time, their vehicle overtook the Thar.Ekampreet alleged that when they reached the traffic lights in Phase 11, the youths in the Thar surrounded their vehicle and began arguing with them, accusing them of trying to race. Shortly afterwards, five to six youths allegedly stepped out of the Thar and attacked the victims using an axe, a ‘datar’ and a sword.Ekampreet Singh sustained serious injuries to his head and arm, requiring 22 stitches. His friend Maninder also suffered severe injuries and required 10 stitches.The accused allegedly fled from the spot after the attack. On receiving information about the incident, Phase 11 police reached the spot and recorded the victims’ statements.Police have registered a case against the unidentified Thar driver and his accomplices under relevant sections of the BNS.SHO Inspector Aman said CCTV footage from the area is being examined and efforts are underway to identify the accused.
