PANCHKULA: In an important development regarding the kidnapping case of city-based realtor Deepak Rai Sagar, Manali police arrested two of the three suspects — Rajesh Thapar of New Delhi and Brijesh Kapoor of Gurgaon — here on Tuesday.
The third suspect is Vinay Kumar. The cops from Himachal Pradesh said Sagar’s family had accused the two of forgery and fraud.
The three accused had presented themselves in front of Panchkula DSP Varinder Singh before the arrests to join the kidnapping investigation.
Punjab and Haryana High Court had ordered them to do so.
Later, Panchkula police CIA had questioned them.
The kidnapping victim’s son, Sameer Sagar, stated that his father and uncle Udai Ram had started Himpro Infra Private Limited in Kullu and the two accused, their wives Aruna Thapar and Deepti Kapoor and chartered accountant Rajiv Gupta had colluded to use forged signatures and become owners of the company.
Kullu police had registered a case against them on October 29 under sections 420 (fraud), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) 468 and 471 (both connected to forgery) of Indian Penal Code.
The transferred property and shares of the company are said to be worth Rs 6 cr. Chandimandir police station’s Inspector Jangsher Singh said Manali police had contacted them and they helped them arrest Kapoor and Thapar.
A lot of arguing took place at the CIA police station before that as counsels of the accused opposed Manali police’s action.
They said their clients had joined the investigation following HC directions and cops had no right to arrest them. In the evening, Manali police personnel took the accused with them for further questioning.
