Rare Sambar Deer rescued in Fatehabad, shifted to Hisar Deer Park
Hisar: In a rare wildlife sighting, a male sambar deer — considered India's largest deer species — was rescued by the forest department near Bighar Road in Fatehabad district on Tuesday. The unexpected appearance of the animal in the region left wildlife officials intrigued, as the species is not usually found in this part of Haryana.Local residents first spotted the deer and immediately alerted forest authorities. Acting swiftly, a team from the forest department reached the spot and rescued the animal before shifting it to the Deer Park in Hisar. According to wildlife inspector Jaivinder Nehra, the animal is a nearly three-year-old male sambar deer. He said the species is generally found in forested regions of Yamunanagar, Ambala and Panchkula districts, making its presence in Fatehabad highly unusual. "The sambar is a rare species and its population has been declining steadily. The deer is completely safe and was shifted to Hisar after preliminary medical examination," Nehra said. He added that further action would be taken as per directions from senior wildlife authorities. Forest officials also launched a search operation in nearby areas to determine whether the deer strayed alone or if other wild animals may also be present in the region. The department will further investigate how the animal managed to reach Fatehabad. The department appealed to the public to immediately inform authorities if any wild animal is spotted, so that timely rescue operations can be carried out and any untoward incident can be avoided. Local resident Radheshyam Nadhori also assisted the wildlife team during the rescue operation.Caption of photo: The team rescues the sambar deerCaption of photo: The sambar deer was rescuedMSID:: 131330780 413 |
