Ranji: Gaurav Puri’s ton propels UT boys with 99-run lead

CHANDIGARH: A timely unbeaten ton by Gaurav Puri helped Chandigarh surpass Railways total of 386 to take a 99-run lead on the third day of the Ranji Trophy match being played at Cricket Stadium, Sector 16 on Thursday. In reply to Railways' 386, Chandigarh scored 485/8. Earlier, hosts resumed their overnight score of 212/2.

The team just added 26 runs when Kunal Mahajan (83) was dismissed by Himanshu. Later, Captain Manan Vohra added yet another 13 runs to his overnight tally before he fell short of his crease by opposition skipper Upender Yadav for 113 with 253/4 on the board. Manan contributed 126 runs by smashing 17 boundaries. Thereafter, Himanshu continued to wreak his havoc and accounted for Ankit Kaushik (27) and Gaurav Gambhir (8) in his same spell to reduce the side at 291/6.

Gaurav and Gurinder Singh's 79-run partnership proved handy to rescue local lads, who were trailing by 95 runs. This association was ended by S S Jadhav when he removed Gurinder Singh (42) with 370.7.

Soon, Sandeep Sharma (11) was also dismissed at the eighth wicket. Meanwhile, Gaurav Puri completed his century. Tailender and pace battery Shrestha Nirmohi played a valuable inning with well-settled batter Puri to form an 89-run partnership. Puri smashed eight boundaries and one beyond the fence for his unbeaten inning of 102 while Nirmohi (52) also scored a half century by hitting nine boundaries.
