The project was conceptualised by Gurpreet Singh Lehal, founding director of the Centre for Technical Development of Punjabi Language, Literature and Culture, who earlier digitised the university's Punjabi–English lexicon. The app was developed under the leadership of the centre's current director Dharmveer Sharma.
