It included 35,679 root words and offered several modern features, including search support in both Gurmukhi and Shahmukhi scripts, audio pronunciation of words, morphology-based search, fuzzy search, and meaning-based lookup. The project was conceptualised by Gurpreet Singh Lehal, founding director of the Centre for Technical Development of Punjabi Language, Literature and Culture, who earlier digitised the university's Punjabi–English lexicon. The app was developed under the leadership of the centre's current director Dharmveer Sharma. Dean Academic Affairs Jaswinder Singh Brar and Registrar Davinderpal Singh Sidhu were also present during the launch ceremony.
