Panjab University board for one batch, one scheme in engineering courses

CHANDIGARH: The board of studies of engineering and technology, Panjab University, on Sunday in its faculty meeting decided to consider the one batch one scheme for all the courses.
A faculty member of the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) has suggested that students enrolled in one batch should have fixed and same syllabus for the entire course.

The suggestion was made after students had raised the issue that if a student fails an exam, he/she has to re-appear for the same in the next semester, but for a changed syllabus.
“At the time of enrolment, an engineering student should be given a handbook of the syllabus. Even if a student has to re-appear in a subject, he/she should know the syllabus and prepare accordingly for it. The current scenario is that if a student has to re-appear in a subject, the syllabus changes by the next semester. This is the reason that I have proposed one batch one scheme and the faculty members have also decided to consider my proposal in the next board of studies meeting,” said Parveen Goyal, senator and faculty member of UIET.
Sources said that three agenda items related to syllabus change were referred back in the meeting on Sunday since the members decided to consider the proposal of one batch one scheme. The proposal was first tabled in a meeting of the engineering and technology faculty in December 2018.
Meanwhile, Panjab University conducted the elections for board of studies on March 30 and March 31 for various subjects, for the term April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2021.
The meetings of the faculties were held during the elections.
Moreover, the board of studies of business management, Panjab University, approved MBA in capital markets to be introduced at UIAMS from the 2019-20 academic year. The course will have 25 seats.
In the postgraduate board of studies in physics, five faculty members were elected. These include Dr Anil Kumar, assistant professor, JC DAV College, Dasuya, Hoshiarpur; Dr Manoj Kumar, assistant professor, DAV College, Abohar; Dr Nelu Mahajan, assistant professor, G G D S D College, Chandigarh; Dr Rajesh Kumar, assistant professor, JC DAV College, Dasuya, Hoshiarpur and Dr Sanjeev Kumar, assistant professor, GGDSD College, Chandigarh.
