Powermen union demand job for Harwinder’s kin

CHANDIGARH: The UT powermen union asked the administration to compensate the family of a lineman who had died after being assaulted by unidentified miscreants while on duty.

The victim, Harwinder Singh, along with eight to 10 officials of the department on November 11 had gone to

Azad Colony

in Sector 25 to disconnect connections of the residents who had not paid their bills.

A delegation of the union on Friday held a meeting with

, who assured them of looking into the demand.

Gopal Dutt Joshi, general secretary of the association, said the family should be given compensation and one of the family members should be given job in the department.

Taking serious note of members of field staff sustaining serious injuries while performing duty, the powermen union is also pressing administration for insurance policy for the field staff.

Recently, two linemen sustained injuries while performing their duties. UT powermen union general secretary

said the department does not provided any financial assistance to the injured linemen.

The department has assured to provide insurance cover to the field staff after working out the modalities, Joshi said.
