Shimla: Over three months after Punjab and Haryana high court suspended his life sentence in a custodial death case related to the infamous Kotkhai rape-murder investigation, Himachal Pradesh govt on Tuesday appointed IPS officer Zahur Haider Zaidi as inspector general of police (IGP) at the Police Academy Training and Research, Shimla.
The court, in its ruling Dec last year, noted contradictions in the CBI's conspiracy narrative. Zaidi, a 1994-batch IPS officer, was heading a SIT as IG in the case.
In other key postings, the state govt appointed Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, former Shimla SSP, as DIG, traffic, tourist, and railways in Shimla. Gurdev Chand Sharma was posted as DIG (law and order), Shimla, while Amit Yadav will take charge as commandant of the 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion, Sakoh, Kangra.
