PANCHKULA: Ten days after shots were fired outside a nightclub in Sector 11, police on Tuesday arrested the accused from a hotel in Pehowa.
Inspector Nirmal Singh, in-charge, crime branch, Sector 19, said the accused is 20-year-old Mohit Jagota of Tarsem Colony in Ludhiana. He runs a mobile shop and used to come to Panchkula on weekends for partying. He had been hiding in the hotel for last few days. Police sources said the pistol used in the crime was illegal.
A court remanded the accused in three-day police custody. “We will try to find out from whom he had purchased the pistol. The car used to escape will also be recovered.”
On July 3, the accused had a fight with another person at ‘Coco Café and Lounge’ nightclub. After coming out, he fired thrice — one of the bullets his friend Sagar. Naresh Sharma, a bouncer at the club and a resident of Sector 19, snatched his pistol and was injured after his hand hit a glass window at the entry of the club. The injured friend and the accused had fled in two separate cars. Police had registered two cases, one of them was against the cafe owner, Vinay Kumar, for running the café beyond the permissible time limit of 1 am under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC. A CCTV footage of the accused firing outside the club in an inebriated condition had gone viral.
