Pkl cop shoots wife dead in house, ends life at plot
Ambala: A 44-year-old assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Panchkula Police allegedly committed suicide after shooting his 39-year-old wife dead with his service revolver at Nasrauli village in Shahzadpur block of Ambala district on Monday.
Gurdeep Singh pumped three bullets into the head of Surinder Kaur at his home and shot himself in the head in an abandoned plot 50 metres away from their house. He was posted at the police lines in Panchkula with police control room (PCR) 7. His children — a 16-year-old girl studying in Class X and two boys studying in classes VI and VII — were in the school when the incident took place around 1pm. His elderly mother Simran Kaur was out in the village.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Chander Mohan said, “Initial investigation has revealed the couple had fought regularly in the past. Their issues had been resolved by panchayats. Gurdeep killed his wife with his service revolver and committed suicide with the same weapon owing to a family dispute. The body of Surinder was found at their home while that of Gurdeep at an abandoned plot.” “We have recovered the service revolver along with four empty cartridges and three live rounds. The weapon has been sent for inspection to confirm the act by Gurdeep. No suicide note has been recovered,” Mohan said.
Villagers said Gurdeep was upset for past nearly six years as sometimes he used to roam around in the village without any reason. “His record is fine; he was a calm personality and never fought with anyone in the village. He was getting treatment from a psychiatrist in Ambala City,” residents said.
Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Astha Modi and Mohan had inspected the crime spot.
The post-mortem would be conducted on Tuesday. Police were waiting for family members of Surinder as to record their statements in the case.
