LUDHIANA: A Pensioners Bhawan fully equipped with latest facilities was dedicated to the pensioners of the state here on Thursday. Constructed at a cost of Rs 16 lakh, the bhawan is first of its kind in the country.

LUDHIANA: A Pensioners Bhawan fully equipped with latest facilities was dedicated to the pensioners of the state here on Thursday. Constructed at a cost of Rs 16 lakh, the bhawan is first of its kind in the country.
Out of the total cost, Rs 10 lakh were provided by the district administration and Rs six lakh out of the local area development fund. MP Gurcharan Singh Ghalib inaugurated the bhawan and deputy commissioner Anurag Verma presided over the function.
Ghalib said with the execution of this prestigious project with the joint efforts of administration and Ludhiana Pensioners Association, senior citizens would be able to contribute to the society in an effective manner. He said that in the present times, the employees retired at the age of 58 have enough energy and experience to render valuable service to the needy people and they should come forward through his forum.
Referring to the commitment of the Congress government to provide transparent governance, Ghalib claimed that chief minister Amarinder Singh had taken effective steps to punish the corrupt politicians and government servants, and to eradicate the prevailing corruption up to the lower level.
He assured more financial assistance required to bring about further improvement in the Bhawan. DC Anurag Verma appreciated the pensioners’ efforts to construct the bhawan with the assistance from administration and Ghalib.
He said the employees retired at the age of 58 years should not be treated as retired from life, but they were full of energy and experience, which if properly channelised, can be used for the betterment of the society.
The deputy commissioner assured the pensioners of all kind of assistance from the administration in redressing their genuine problems.
