Patiala: In a major step towards creating a cleaner and more sustainable city, the municipal corporation, Patiala successfully removed the secondary waste collection point located on Bhadson Road near the Central Jail.
The drive was undertaken under the direct supervision of mayor Kundan Gogia and commissioner Paramvir Singh, with active support from the health department team. The site has now been earmarked for beautification, in line with the city's vision of improved aesthetics and enhanced urban spaces.
Commissioner Paramvir Singh said to ensure smooth and sustainable waste management, the corporation has deployed electric vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection. These vehicles also collect waste from informal pickers and transport it directly to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and the designated dumping site.
"This eco-friendly initiative streamlines waste handling while reducing Patiala's carbon footprint," he added.
He added that the removal of this collection point marks another milestone in MC Patiala's commitment to the
Swachh Bharat Mission and to building a healthier, greener and more beautiful Patiala.
MC health officer Dr Navinder Singh said the corporation has so far removed 24 out of 42 secondary collection points. "We are planting saplings and placing tree pots at these cleared locations to discourage littering and keep the spaces clean," he said.
