Online petition urges Rahul Gandhi not to appoint Kamal Nath as MP CM
JALANDHAR: An online petition addressed to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi asked him not to appoint former union minister Kamal Nath as Madhya Pradesh chief minister.
The petition sent on Thursday afternoon by Karthik Venkatesh mentioned Nath’s alleged role during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The political leader's role has been documented, it read and argued that his appointment would disrespect those, who voted against politics of hatred.
“Winning an election is just the beginning of a journey.
1x1 polls
What it means is that we, the people, have entrusted you to put your best foot forward for us. And we are going to be watching your actions sharply and evaluate you,” it said.
“The Indian National Congress cannot fail the very first test it has been given in the journey that began a couple of days ago. By making Kamal Nath the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh you are disrespecting every vote that came to you. These votes were against the politics of hatred and against the climate of ‘othering’,” the petition mentioned.
“Kamal Nath's role during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which has been documented in detail, begs the question whether you (Rahul Gandhi) were sincere about the message of communal harmony that you delivered in your well-received speech for the press. Does it make each one of us, who rejoiced at the fall of the BJP government, ask this question: ‘In rejoicing at the defeat of the killers of 2002, have we once again unleashed the killers of 1984? Let this not be so this time. Punish the killers of 1984. Only then can you claim the defeat of killers of 2002,” argued the petition, which slowly started gathering momentum.
