Mob vandalises hospital after ‘drug overdose’ death in Hisar
Hisar: Tension gripped Hisar over the alleged drug overdose death of a young woman, leading to violence, hospital vandalism, and clashes with the police.Authorities registered three FIRs in connection with the unrest and booked 49 people, including nine women and a former village sarpanch. Police also arrested 25 accused. The violence broke out during an attempt by protesters to forcibly take possession of the bodies of two people — Poonam, who died due to alleged drug overdose, and Honey, whose body was found in the Ladwa canal. The mob vandalised Sapra Hospital, attacked police vehicles, and allegedly looted and equipment.YouTuber, ex-sarpanch key accusedThose named in the FIR include YouTuber Sanjay Chauhan, former Kheri Jalab sarpanch Rajesh and several residents from villages across Hisar and Fatehabad. The first FIR, registered at Civil Lines police station on the complaint of ASI Naveen Kumar from Padav police post, alleges that while collecting Poonam's body from Sapra Hospital for post-mortem, the officer was attacked by a mob of 50–60 people led by Chauhan. The attackers pelted stones at the police vehicle, looted a laptop and official documents, and obstructed govt work, according to the FIR. ASI Naveen managed to escape and was later admitted to the hospital for treatment. The second FIR, filed on the complaint of Pankaj Kumar, ICU in-charge at Sapra Hospital, alleges vandalism. According to the complaint, the mob — again incited by Sanjay Chauhan — broke the hospital's main gate, ICU entrance, windows, and damaged several parked vehicles using stones and other objects. The hospital estimates financial losses between Rs 4–5 lakh. The FIR includes provisions of the BNS and the Haryana Medical Service Persons and Medicare Service Institution (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act.Attempt to snatch body from ambulanceThe third FIR was lodged based on a complaint by security agent Sukhbir. It alleges that while escorting the body of Honey from the Civil Hospital to Agroha Medical College for post-mortem, Sanjay Chauhan and others incited the crowd to seize the body. The mob allegedly snatched the ambulance keys, threw stones, and attempted to forcibly remove the body. Protesters also threatened to block the road with the deceased's body.MSID:: 123022489 413 |
