Missing student’s body recovered from canal in Abohar
Abohar: The body of a 17-year-old Class X student, who had been missing for two days after jumping into a canal, was recovered on Saturday from the sluice gate of the Malukpura Minor canal.The deceased was identified as Yuvraj, a student of Simigo International School and a resident of Geetanjali Enclave. Police said his mother had lodged a missing person report two days ago, following which search efforts were underway. The body was retrieved with the help of members of the Nar Seva Narayan Samiti and shifted to the civil hospital mortuary for post-mortem.Station house officer Davinder Singh of Police Station No. 2 said the body was identified by Yuvraj's elder brother, Anmol. Further action will be taken based on the statement of the boy's mother, he added.According to police, Yuvraj had been upset after his mother refused to allow him to travel to Himachal Pradesh with his friends. It is learnt that he had video-called his mother before jumping into the Malukpura Minor canal along Hanumangarh Road.Yuvraj had recently scored well in the CBSE Class X examinations, the results of which were declared on April 15. The school management expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing him as a bright student who excelled in academics and sports.Police said Yuvraj's parents had separated about three years ago. He lived with his mother, while his brother resides with their father.
