Minor injuries reported, post Diwali number goes up in few hospitals

Ludhiana: Diwali without accidents is almost unthinkable and the festival did not end in the city without a blot. There were reports of some fire incidents as well as minor burn injuries with the injured being admitted to hospitals and kept under observation. Incidentally, the number of cases in few hospitals has gone up as compared to last year whereas in the Civil hospital it sees a reduction. More than 80 cases were reported this year, as per a data collected from different hospitals. As per figures last year the figure was more than 40 cases.

At the Christian Medical College and Hospital, 32 cases were reported this year which was more than the number (14) last year. Out of this, 20 cases were reported till 12 am while the rest were reported during the day. Six patients suffered injuries in the eye and were discharged where as one was admitted after his hand was burnt. There was also a case of LAMA (Leaving against medical advice).

In the Lord Mahavir District Civil Hospital, the number of cases reported was less as compared to last year. Only 3 cases of minor injuries were reported this year as compared to 5 last year.

In DMC Hospital, 26 cases have been reported this year, out of which 3 were admitted and kept under observation, 6 cases of eye injury were reported and rest were OPD patients, said Dr Sandeep Sharma, Medical Superintendent of DMC Hospital. The 3 patients admitted, had suffered burns because of crackers. He further added, “People are getting aware and no major injury has been reported.”

In Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, Model town, around 7 with minor burn injuries were admitted with no case of facial burn, said Dr Vikramjit Singh, Emergency medical officer in GTB. Around 20 OPD patients were reported in OPD against 14 in the last year.

Dr Ramesh Mehta of Dr Ramesh Super Speciality Eye & Laser Centre, BRS Nagar infofrmed that he had received 7 cases of injury out of which 1 has lost his vision, 5 are under operation and a 10-year-old girl had chemical burning due to Rangoli.
