Panchkula: Panchkula deputy commissioner and district election officer (DEO) Dr Yash Garg on Thursday said as per instructions of the
Election Commission of India (ECI), no cable or cinema hall operator in the district can run any political advertisement without permission and certificate from the media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC).
Apart from this, permission of the MCMC is also required to publish advertisements in newspapers. The DEO said as per the ECI instructions regarding the Assembly elections, a district-level MCMC is constantly monitoring the campaigning of the election candidates. All cable operators have to ensure compliance with the Cable TV Network Regulation Act along with the rules laid down by the ECI. Strict action will be taken against those who violate the orders. The DC said in order to conduct the Assembly elections in a transparent and peaceful manner, all citizens will have to follow the orders of the ECI and the chief electoral officer, Haryana.
Along with this, it is necessary for all cable operators of the district to follow the instructions given from time to time through the MCMC. He added that the committee was closely monitoring advertisements being run on cable and other channels.
During the elections, cable and cinema hall operators cannot broadcast any advertisement without MCMC certificate.
The DC appealed to the political parties and candidates contesting elections to take permission from the MCMC committee before broadcasting the advertisement so that the election expenditure details are prepared in a transparent manner.
Dr Garg said advertisements of various candidates published in newspapers will also be published only after approval by MCMC.
