LUDHIANA: Following martyr Bhagat Singh's innocence petition in a Pakistani court, Sukhdev Thapar's family in Ludhiana has demanded from the Prime Minister that all documents related to cases registered by the British government against Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev be handed over to their families. They have also demanded the government to facilitate their being a party to the case.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ashok Thapar, president of the Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust, and a relative of martyr Sukhdev Thapar, has demanded a copy of the FIR lodged against the martyr by the British government alleging his hand in the murder of British police officer John P Saunders. Thapar said they have been demanding revelation of the details related to the case. "We need a copy of the FIR, the details of the case proceedings, court orders, and other documents related to the hanging of the trio -- Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. These documents are a must, and as a family of the martyr, we have a right to access these documents according to any law of the world," he said.
He further said they were quite hopeful they would get some details, especially at a time the Government of India has done so much for declassification of files relating to the mysterious death of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He said the trio had sacrificed their lives for the country, and they were not for violence, but raising their voice against ill-doings of the British government.
He added that they also wanted to be made a party to the case filed by advocate Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi to prove the innocence of Bhagat Singh. He said the trio were together in all their endeavours for the country's freedom. They were booked together in cases by the British government, and thus family members of all the martyrs should be involved in the case, as they had similar demands. "We are trying to contact the advocate in Pakistan also, as he runs an organization whose help we can take," added Thapar.
