Man duped of over Rs 4 lakh
Chandigarh: The UT cyber police have registered a case against unknown persons for allegedly duping a city resident of Rs 4.3 lakh on the pretext of offering high returns through an online business. No arrests have been made so far.
Complainant Lokesh, a resident of Dhanas, said he works as a salesman in a private firm. He told police that on March 31, 2026, he was befriended on Facebook by a woman identifying herself as Ishu Sharma, who later contacted him on WhatsApp and introduced him to an online business opportunity.
She allegedly asked him to invest through a platform and sent a link, following which he created an account. Trusting her, he transferred Rs 4.3 lakh between April 15 and April 25. The woman later stopped responding, after which Lokesh realised he had been cheated and lodged a complaint.
