Mohali: A delegation of the Malayalee Samajam Mohali (Kerala Bhawan) met Rajya Sabha MP PP Suneer, raising concerns over poor rail connectivity between the Chandigarh region and Kerala.The delegation highlighted that a large number of Malayalees working in govt services, private sector, educational institutions and businesses in Punjab, Chandigarh and neighbouring areas are forced to undertake long, inconvenient journeys involving multiple train changes to reach their hometowns.Submitting a memorandum, the Samajam urged the MP to take up the issue with the ministry of railways and seek improved direct connectivity between North India and Kerala.A key demand was the extension of the Mangala Express up to Chandigarh. Members said such an extension would offer a direct and convenient option for passengers from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh travelling to Kerala.They also pointed out that better connectivity would boost tourism, business travel and cultural exchanges between the two regions.Suneer assured the delegation that their concerns would be conveyed to the authorities concerned.
