Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Tuesday slammed the AAP govt and chief minister Bhagwant Mann for Punjab's "rising debt".
Majithia also claimed that "the Punjab govt, which is facing a financial crisis, has taken a fresh loan of Rs 1,300 crore".
In a written statement, Majithia highlighted, "Within just 20 days, the AAP govt and the chief minister have increased Punjab's debt by Rs 2,800 crore for their own comforts, despite earlier promises of not increasing the debt and reducing the existing burden."
"At the beginning of April, the govt took a loan of Rs 1,500 crore, and now Rs 1,300 crore has been borrowed," he added.
The Akali Dal leader said, "Under the present govt, Punjab's debt has crossed Rs 4 lakh crore, and at the current pace of borrowing, it may soon reach Rs 5 lakh crore."
He further stated, "While the govt always has funds for advertisements and AAP rallies across the country, the treasury becomes empty when it comes to paying employees' DA."
