CHANDIGARH: Onlookers gaped. But that did not deter the she-woman as she set a glistening red motorcycle on fire inside a Sector-19 school on Wednesday afternoon.
In an apparent crime of passion, a girl clad in a brown ‘salwaar kameez’ scorched a bike that was parked at Vatika School. Before anybody could say
Jack Robinson, she vroomed out of the place on her Honda Activa.
Till the filing of this report, police hadn’t received any complaint in the matter due to which no legal proceedings had been initiated. The damaged bike has been sent to police ‘malkhana’ (storeroom).
Police sources said it seemed the girl had been spurned in love by the bike’s owner, leading her to such an extreme step.
Still shocked by the real-life drama, eye-witnesses said the girl dipped a handkerchief in her scooter’s fuel tank, placed it on the bike and set it afire, all in a matter of a few moments.
Even as she fled the spot, those who had gathered at the spot called up the police. Though cops talked to eye-witnesses and inspected the spot, neither any complainant came forward nor did the bike owner. However, sources said the guy who owned the motorcycle was in a red jacket.
Anil Kumar, who runs a Verka booth inside the school, told TOI, “We were so shocked that it did not occur to us to note down the scooter number.”
The SHO of Sector-19 police station, inspector Ramgopal, said, “The incident occurred in the afternoon but we haven’t yet received any complaint. The bike owner too hasn’t approached us.”
