Panchkula: Police have registered a case against several individuals, including financiers, on a complaint filed by the wife of a local jeweller who allegedly died by suicide following sustained mental harassment and pressure.
The case relates to Rajat Khanna, a resident of Sector 4, Panchkula, who reportedly died by suicide at his residence on May 28. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
ACP Vikram Nehra said the deceased ran a jewellery business, Rajat Jewellers, in the MDC area. The complainant has alleged that after suffering business losses, Khanna was repeatedly pressured by certain individuals for payments and was subjected to threats, causing severe mental distress.
On May 28, police received a Dial-112 call reporting that a man had hanged himself at a residence in Sector 4. A police team reached the spot and shifted him to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
DCP Panchkula Srishti Gupta said the investigation has been initiated based on the complaint, a suicide note recovered from the spot, and other evidence.
She also clarified that reports claiming involvement of police officials in the case are incorrect, adding that no police personnel have been named in the complaint filed by the family.
