Jind: The protest by the Bharatiya Kisan Union against the new crop procurement rules continued for the ninth day on Thursday. Farmers have been protesting for a rollback of the biometric procurement system. In an escalation of their agitation, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) has decided to burn effigies of BJP ministers and MLAs every day until their demands are met. An effigy of Haryana deputy speaker Krishan Lal Midda, who is also an MLA from the Jind assembly constituency, was burned to press their demands.
On Wednesday, BKU district president Bindar Numberdar, state vice president Umed Singh Redhu and spokesperson Ramraji Dhull had expressed their anger and said that until the government withdraws this 'tuglaki garman', they will burn the effigy of a minister or MLA every day. The BKU has demanded that the government immediately roll back the new crop procurement rules. They warned that if the rules are not withdrawn soon, a major decision will be taken at the ongoing protest at the market committee office on April 19.
