Hry’s dual reality: Son after 10 daughters; feast for girl’s birth
Jind: Haryana recently witnessed two contrasting celebrations: a couple welcomed their 11th child — a son— after 10 daughters, while a family threw a feast to welcome a daughter. In Pauli village, Julana, the air was filled with music and the beat of drums as the community gathered for a feast. Sanjay, the proud father, organised a ‘Kua Pujan' — a ceremony traditionally reserved for male children—to celebrate his daughter's birth. "We performed this to symbolise respect and equality," he said, adding that his sister, born 39 years ago, was the last girl born into the family. The mother added that girls today excel in sports, education, and the armed forces, proving they are in no way inferior to boys. The village sarpanch said that the entire community shared in the family's joy.
Around 115 km away in Dhani Bhojraj village, Fatehabad, a different celebration took place. After 19 years of marriage and 10 daughters, Sanjay, a labourer, finally welcomed a son. "After 19 years, my mother's wish is fulfilled. My eldest daughter is studying in Class XII. All our family members as well as the villagers are happy," said Sanjay Santosh, a doctor at the hospital Uchana Kalan, Jind, where the delivery took place, said that the delivery was a high-risk one for both child and mother. "Her haemoglobin level was only 5 grams, and the baby was suffering from a shortage of amniotic fluid. Despite the complications, she delivered a healthy baby boy through a normal delivery. Both the mother and the newborn are stable and healthy," the doctor said. She, however, issued a warning against such practices. "Repeated pregnancies pose serious health risks to both the mother and the child. I strongly advise families not to opt for a third child, let alone 11." Box Father forgets names of girls While the Fatehabad man was jubilant after the birth of his son after 10 daughters, he could not remember the names of all the girls when speaking to mediapersons. "Sometimes I forget their names," he said, adding he aspires to make his son an officer but has no such concrete plan for his daughters. MSID:: 126396293 413 |
