Haryana: Yamunanagar CIA cracks sarpanch’s wife murder case, son among two arrested
YAMUNANAGAR: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA)–II team of Yamunanagar police has successfully solved the sensational murder case of the wife of a village sarpanch in Shyampur village, leading to the arrest of two accused, including the deceased woman’s son.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gomit Rathi, son of the deceased woman, and his accomplice, Pankaj, a resident of Shyampur village. Both have been produced before the court and remanded to four days of police custody.
DSP Ashish Chaudhary said the breakthrough was achieved under the direction of SP Kamaldeep Goyal, who had constituted a special investigation team to investigate the case as the circumstances of the death appeared doubtful at first glance. The team solved the heinous crime through meticulous investigation and analysis of technical evidence.
DSP Chaudhary said that on December 24, 2025, information was received at Sadhaura police station regarding the suspicious death of Baljinder Kaur, wife of the sarpanch of village Shyampur.
During the investigation, it came to light that Baljinder Kaur had been embroiled in a long-standing family dispute with her son Gomit Rathi. Due to these conflicts, Gomit Rathi was sent abroad to England nearly two years ago. However, the family discord continued despite his relocation.
Police investigation further revealed that Gomit Rathi secretly returned to India from England on December 18, 2025, without informing any family member. Only his associate Pankaj, was aware of his return. Pankaj allegedly provided full assistance to Gomit Rathi and ensured that no one came to know about his presence in the village.
On the night of December 24, 2025, Gomit Rathi quietly reached Shyampur and hid himself in the cattle shed.
Later that night, he attacked his mother, first assaulting her and then strangling her to death. To give the murder the appearance of an accident or suspicious death, the accused dumped the body into a water tank. After committing the crime, he fled the scene, said the DSP.
The DSP said that during police remand, the accused will be subjected to intensive interrogation and the weapons used in the murder will be recovered. Police officials reiterated that every aspect of the case is being examined in detail to ensure a strong prosecution.
