YAMUNANAGAR: The police have booked four officials of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) allegedly for committing embezzlement of Rs 63 lakh by preparing cheques on the basis of bogus payment vouchers.

Those booked in the case include a lower divisional clerk (LDC) Raghav Wadhwan, divisional accountant
Yogesh Lamba
, deputy superintendent
Rakesh Nanda
who is posted at XEN office of operation division, Bilaspur and deputy superintendent Chakarvartoty Sharma who is posted at XEN, operation division
Samalakha
(Panipat).
UHBVN's operational circle superintending engineer (SE) at Yamunanagar said, "An accountant Yogesh Lamba had been suspended in connection with this case. We wrote to higher officials of the UHBVN for action against other suspects also."
The Yamunanagar police registered a case against the accused four officials under Section 34 (common intention) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Bilaspur police station on February 18, Friday.
In his complaint,
XeN Neeraj
said that he had been posted as XeN, operation division, UHBVAN at Bilaspur since July 2021.
"During my inspection of record I detected that above mentioned (four) officials of my office prepared bogus vouchers and on the basis of bogus payment vouchers, they prepared cheques, and subsequently amounts were credited in the wrong accounts. This practice was effected from the last four-five months", said XeN Neeraj.
“When my staff checked the record on my directions, the embezzlement amount was found approximately to the tune of Rs 63 lakh (which may vary as per the detailed audit inspection of the records by the audit department). The said officials with a coalition of each other misappropriated/embezzled the funds of the Nigam,” complained XeN Neeraj to police.
Sources disclosed that the embezzlement was committed in the funds of revised pension arrear and other funds of the retired employees.
