Haryana CM reviews drinking water, irrigation projects
Chandigarh: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini said that keeping in view the summer season, the supply of drinking water must be ensured on a priority basis in all parts of the state. "All ponds, waterworks and other reservoirs should be kept filled," he said.The CM gave these directions on Saturday while reviewing the status of drinking water and agricultural irrigation water with officials of the Public Health Department, Irrigation Department and other departments at the civil secretariat. He said that a meeting with the Ministry of Jal Shakti regarding Kishau and other water projects related to Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh would be held soon, in which officials from these states would also participate. "Considering the summer season, there should be no shortage of drinking water and irrigation water in rural and urban areas of the state. All waterworks and ponds connected to canals for drinking water should be kept filled. In areas where water supply is tube well-based, if any tube well becomes non-functional, it should be repaired on priority. If required, water should be supplied to people through tankers," Saini said.
During the meeting, officials informed the CM that the water situation in Bhakra Dam is quite good this year. At present, the water level in Bhakra Dam is 36 feet higher. Haryana has so far utilised only 75-76@% of its allocated share of water from Bhakra Dam.The CM also reviewed the availability of water in rural waterworks. Officials informed that the state has 4,000 single-village-based waterworks, while 2,500 waterworks cater to more than one village. They said that all these waterworks are connected to canals and currently have sufficient drinking water available.The Chief Minister also reviewed canal cleaning, repair and reconstruction works and directed that all such works should be completed at a fast pace.MSID:: 130716390 413 |
