Haryana BJP constitutes 5-member committee for civic polls
Chandigarh: A day after the announcement of the schedule for the civic polls in seven municipal bodies and byelections to the Panchayati Raj institutions, the core group of Haryana BJP on Tuesday constituted a five-member committee to identify and shortlist candidates.Municipal corporations of Panchkula, Sonipat and Ambala; municipal council of Rewari; and municipal committees of Uklana, Sampla and Dharuhera will go to the polls on May 10.The core group, headed by chief minister Nayab Singh Saini and Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli, and other senior leaders, including state in-charge Dr Satish Poonia, national vice-president Saudan Singh, national general secretary Om Prakash Dhankhar, central parliamentary board member Dr Sudha Yadav, Union minister Krishnapal Gurjar, Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala, Dr Kamal Gupta, Captain Abhimanyu, organisation minister Phanindranath Sharma, met at the state headquarters of Panchkula on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming polls.Besides laying out brief outlines for civic polls, the meeting also deliberated on Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, PM's Mann Ki Baat, and other party programmes that have taken place or are scheduled for the coming days.Saini held detailed discussions on state govt policies, while state president Badoli took up the organisational matters. State in-charge Dr Satish Poonia emphasised better coordination between the organisation and the govt so that the party and the govt policies could reach the public more effectively.
Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Saini said the Nari Shakti Vandan Bill was coming to the Lok Sabha, and a strategy had been formulated for it. The BJP's Mahila Morcha will play a leading role in this campaign. Resolutions in support of the Bill will be prepared from panchayats, municipalities and municipal corporations, he added.Badoli informed that a strategy had been prepared for the municipal body elections. He said the party had assigned duties to ministers and office-bearers for the upcoming polls. In addition, wherever byelections are to be held, a three-member committee has already been constituted. This committee includes the district president, district in-charge and general secretary, Badoli added.He further said a five-member committee would conduct consultations and prepare reports on April 15 and 16 in all the areas where elections are to be held. Forms will also be collected from leaders wishing to contest elections. Senior party leaders will separately hold discussions with the MLAs and ministers of their respective constituencies. From April 17 to 19, workers' meetings will be held in every ward of the election areas, Badoli informed."On April 20, a meeting of the election committee will be held in which the names of candidates will be finalised.
