GJUST row: JJP leaders move rights panel, allege midnight raids
Hisar: Days after a ruckus at the GJUST campus, several leaders and workers of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) have approached the Haryana State Human Rights Commission, alleging illegal midnight raids, harassment and violation of fundamental rights by Hisar police. Complainants Gaurav Saini, Ravindra Kumar alias Ravi, Tarun Goyal, Vijendra Dhanak and Jitendra Sheoran claimed that multiple police teams conducted late-night raids on April 16-17, 2026, in connection with an FIR registered at Hisar City police station. They alleged that despite not being named in the FIR, they were targeted due to their association with the JJP and its student wing. According to the complaint, police teams — comprising a DSP, inspectors and other officials, many in plain clothes — raided several houses without warrants, notices or the presence of women police personnel. The petitioners alleged that officials forcibly entered homes, conducted searches and detained individuals without following due legal procedure. One of the incidents cited in the complaint involves Gaurav Saini, president of the JJP Youth Wing in Hisar city. The complaint states that around 4:30 am, a police team allegedly barged into his residence in Vijay Nagar, searched the premises and seized a DVR connected to CCTV cameras without providing any receipt or documentation.
Family members, including women, were allegedly threatened and abused during the operation. Saini, who was not named in the FIR, was reportedly taken to the police station and forced to sign documents, the complaint alleges. The complainants have accused the police of "atrocities, torture and harassment", claiming that their homes were targeted solely due to political affiliation. They further alleged damage to property and intimidation of family members during the raids. Seeking intervention, the complainants have urged the Human Rights Commission to take strict action against the police officials involved and to initiate an independent inquiry into the alleged violations. No official response from Hisar police was available at the time of filing this report. MSID: 130420073 413 |
