CHANDIGARH: If you are planning to have a New Year bash out in the open, you may have to run for cover. The met department has predicted rains on the eve as well as on the first day of the New Year.
"There is a possibility of rains on December 31 and January 1. Actually, the weather will start turning cloudy on December 30 after days of sunshine," said Surender Paul, director, meteorological department, Chandigarh.
The city has been witnessing sunshine since Wednesday with the maximum temperature slowly going up by 1 degree in four days and settled at 19.1 degrees celsius on Friday.

But if the days were warmer, the nights have become colder.
The minimum temperature, which was 8.8 degrees celsius on December 24, dropped to 3.8 degrees on Friday. Paul said the weather would continue to be colder during the nights and the day temperature would continue to elevate. If the sky remained clear the temperature would continue to fall, he added.

December 24: 18 degrees
December 25: 18.8 degrees
December 26: 19.1 degrees
December 27: 19.1 degrees
Minimum temperatures:
December 24: 8.8 degrees
December 25: 5.7 degrees
December 26: 5.8 degrees
