BATHINDA: The World Kabaddi League (WKL) has got a dash of glamour added to its commentary team. Former Indian women's cricket team captain
Anjum Chopra has been roped in by the organizers and with her expert comments the Arjuna awardee has won several hearts, while being on air.
Talking to TOI, the 37-year-old said commentating on kabaddi was vastly different to cricket.
"It is entirely different kind of experience for me. I had played kabaddi while growing up and those gruelling training sessions helped me in improving my fitness. My first love, though, was always cricket.
"I never thought of lending my voice for a kabaddi match and giving expert comments. When the WKL organizers approached me, I accepted it as a challenge and it has been a great experience so far. Like cricket, I also want to excel while commentating on kabaddi," Chopra reflected.
Asked how did she manage to get the know how about the game, Chopra replied, "I watched videos of the sport, had exhausting sessions with coaches and learnt the techniques of both national and circle style kabaddi. I also played it, once in a while, to know the finer details and now I am implementing all that during my commentary."
Anjum played 12 Tests, 127 ODIs and 18 T20 internationals for India in a cricket career spanning more than 17 years. She has also been a part of the Indian team in four World Cup campaigns, including the 2005 one in which India reached the finals.
