AMRITSAR: Punjab vigilance bureau on Wednesday arrested a former chairman of Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT), Dinesh Bassi, in a case pertaining to a fraud allegedly committed in the allotment of a plot in Amritsar in May last year.

The bureau has also registered a case against Bassi’s associates Raghav Sharma and Vikas Khanna. The case has been registered on the basis of a letter sent by the present chairman of AIT. According to bureau officials, the three connived to get a plot allotted for just Rs 1,410 per square yard, whereas the prevailing market value of the said property was Rs 70,000 per square yard, with the scheme rate being Rs 28,300 and collector rate being Rs 17,800 tnn.
