Faridabad gang rape: Opposition hits out Saini govt, seeks action

Chandigarh: The alleged gang rape of a woman in a moving car in Faridabad has put the Nayab Singh Saini-govt in the firing line, with the opposition launching an intensified attack on the CM and police on the last day of the year.Besides Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Rao Narender Singh, leader of opposition and former chief minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and the state president of the Mahila Congress, Sudha Bharadwaj, targeted the govt on the issue of the safety and security of women in Haryana.Indian National Lok Dal MLA Aditya Devil Lal Chautala also censured the Saini dispensation.Rao Narender Singh expressed anguish, terming the gang rape incident extremely shameful and reprehensible.Hooda said: "This incident has shaken the entire country and society. It was once again proven that there is no such thing as law and order in Haryana. The BJP govt completely failed to provide security to women. The Social Progress Index released by the central govt itself states that Haryana is the most unsafe state in the country, and the Faridabad incident proved this.""The Congress demands the strictest possible punishment for those responsible for this heinous crime. The punishment should be such that no one dares to even think of committing such a despicable act in the future," said both Hooda and Narender Singh.Sudha Bharadwaj alleged that crime against women and children was at its peak in the state.
