Fake cops play fraud, woman loses ₹10L

Panchkula/Chandigarh: A 38-year-old woman working in a private firm in IT Park Chandigarh fell prey to cyber cons, who first took a loan of Rs 10 lakh on her behalf, using her personal details, including Aadhar card number, and then threatened to implicate her in a money laundering case by posing as cops from Mumbai police. After that, the cyber cons made her transfer the loan amount Rs 10 lakh to their account. Cyber cell has registered a case.In her complaint, a resident of MDC Sector 6 said on Sept 11, she received a phone call and the caller introduced himself as Ravi Kant, speaking on behalf of a courier company in Mumbai.The caller read her Aadhar card number and debit card number and the caller told her that some unknown person had misused her personal details to send a courier containing 3 kg clothes, one laptop, three passports, 450 grams of drugs from India to Iran.2 arrested from Bihar Chandigarh cyber police arrested two persons from Bihar for allegedly cheating a city resident of Rs 4.80 lakh after posing as his relative from Canada. The accused were produced before a local court, which sent them to judicial custody.The cyber police said the accused have been identified as Ravi Kumar and Baljogeshwar, alias Zimmy, both residents of Patna. The complainant said that he had received a call from an unknown person, who introduced himself as Cheema from Canada. The caller deceptively portrayed himself as a relative and told him that he and his friends were allegedly harassed in a hotel by some Canadian citizens. The fraudster further said that they entered a scuffle with Canadian people and injured them. Canadian people called up the police, and the police arrested them.

Four members were arrested, and various items including cash and electronic devices were seized during the operation.

Tibetan man gives cyber cons access to 26 bank accounts, arrested

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force arrested Tibetan national Chhinjon Tharchin for committing cybercrimes in India. Tharchin used forged documents to get an Indian passport and helped people access Indian bank accounts for fraud. He faces charges under several sections related to cheating, forgery, and the Passport Act. The investigation is ongoing.
