Dr Ravneet Kaur takes charge as GMCH-32 director principal
Chandigarh: Dr Ravneet Kaur, a veteran in transfusion medicine, took charge as director-principal of the Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32. She succeeded Dr Jasbinder Kaur, becoming the second woman to lead the prestigious institution. In a recent interaction with TOI, Dr Ravneet shared her vision for the hospital, emphasising a shift towards ground-level administration and the integration of modern technology to streamline patient care.
With over a decade of experience heading the department of transfusion medicine and serving as a regular professor since 2014, Dr Ravneet brought deep institutional knowledge to the role. She acknowledged the weight of the responsibility but expressed a strong sense of commitment. "It is a challenge, but women have led vital departments here for years. My philosophy is simple: to be effective, you must be on the floor, at the low level, seeing reality on the spot," Dr Ravneet stated. She also outlined a balanced approach to the three core pillars of the college, including patient care as the top priority, maintaining the high academic standards GMCH is known for to support the next generation of doctors, and strengthening the research wing to ensure the institution remains at the forefront of medical innovation. "I must strengthen emergency care and work on weak areas," she said.Drawing from her success in transfusion medicine — where she implemented a sophisticated computer tracking system for blood units — the new drector pincipal plans to scale similar technological solutions hospital-wide. She also expressed interest in implementing digital feedback systems, such as QR-code-based suggestions, to bridge the gap between patients and administration.Dr Ravneet comes from a family deeply rooted in public service. Her husband is a retired orthopaedic surgeon from GMSH-16, and her son serves in the Indian Revenue Service. She credits her inspiration to her parents and grandparents, noting that becoming a doctor was a lifelong dream.
