CHANDIGARH: NavSankalp, a student-run charity association of DAV-10, hosted "Sparkles", a charity show, on the campus on Wednesday and donated Rs 1 lakh to Dinesh, 3, for cardiac surgery.
Deepak, father of Dinesh and a daily-wager, said, "We came to know about Dinesh's ailment when he was 2 months old. Since then, we have been collecting money for his treatment.
When no one was ready to help us, NavSankalp contacted me through PGI. I am thankful to the organization for its valuable help."
R P Upadhyay, UT inspector general of police, was the chief guest of the show. "Students associated with NavSankalp are working for a noble cause. I appreciate their effort and work," he said.
Aman Mendhiratta, president of NavSankalp, said, "The group aims at helping the needy children."
Dance performances by kids of Snehalya and Lassya, a performance by Swastik Band, drama "Maston ka tola" by "Aaghaaz", interaction by RJ Manav and bhangra by DAV students were the highlights of the show.
The group was founded on November 2, 2006, by Harpriya Kaur and a few students of the college. Now, it has 250 members. It has helped 27 ailing children with donations of Rs11 lakh since 2006.
