Shimla: State BJP president Rajeev Bindal on Friday accused the Congress govt of attempting to "hijack" the municipal and panchayati raj elections in Himachal Pradesh.Bindal claimed that the Congress was rattled by the BJP's strong performance in the recent municipal elections and was now trying to alter the election rules to influence the outcome of the chairperson and vice-chairperson polls. He termed the move to introduce new rules and notifications during the ongoing election process as an attack on democracy and the Constitution. Bindal alleged that the state govt was using fear, intimidation and money power to influence elected representatives and secure votes in its favour. The state BJP chief further accused the Congress of misusing govt machinery to retain power and weaken democratic institutions. He warned that the BJP would launch protests from the streets to the assembly if any attempt was made to tamper with the electoral mandate.MSID:: 131262539 413 |
