CHANDIGARH: Internal rift within the Congress came out in the open on Monday as senior leader and former general secretary Sandeep Bhardwaj resigned from the party’s primary membership and sent his resignation to national chief Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahul Gandhi.

Some of the party’s senior leaders, including Bhardwaj, were constantly showing their disagreement with the new leadership. Sources confirmed that Bhardwaj’s exit is suitable for

Chandigarh Congress

president Subhash Chawla as well as former city MP

Pawan Kumar Bansal

.

The move has comes at a time when the new list of the office-bearers of the Congress had been announced. Bhardwaj’s name was missing from all committees.

In his letter, Bhardwaj criticised Bansal. He said, “With a heavy heart, I tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress due to the dictatorial attitude of Pawan Kumar Bansal, who made Chandigarh Congress as his one private limited company, like other ventures of his, schools, car dealerships and medicine factory. Because of his and his family involvement in the rail scam in 2013, Congress completely got rooted out from here. He took all Congressmen as his employees and want them to work as slaves. I don’t want to work more under such a leader. I also remind that I have worked for the party since 1981”, Not only Bhardwaj, the former city’s Congress president and senior party’s leader

Pardeep Chhabra

has also been seen sidelined from the party. Chhabra has tweeted, “I think I say that Chandigarh’s party leaders feels everybody a servant. Don’t dare to listen the truth.”

This situation has come at a time when the municipal corporation elections are due later this year. Now, it will be interesting to see how party prepare itself for the election and deal with the ongoing internal tussle due to some senior leaders. Bhardwaj has served over 30 years in the Congress and had contested the municipal councillor election too but got no success.

The Congress will enter the municipal elections with the objective of ousting the Bharatiya Janat Party from power and will need all the unity in its squad.
