College student appointed as one-day SHO to promote women empowerment
Jind: To enhance awareness and confidence among youth, especially women, about policing and the justice system, Jind police entrusted the role of ‘One-Day SHO' to a student of Indira Gandhi Women's College at the Women Police Station here.As part of the programme, the student closely observed the working of the police station and gained practical insight into the types of cases registered at the police station. She was briefed about police procedures in cases related to domestic violence, dowry harassment, molestation, cyber harassment, child abuse, missing children, child marriage, and online fraud or blackmail. The initiative highlighted how the police take prompt and appropriate action in such matters, said an IPS officer.
Sub-inspector Monika, the station house officer (SHO) at the Women Police Station, said the primary objective of this initiative is to help women, especially students and youth, understand that a police station is not a place of fear but a centre for justice and security.During the programme, the student listened to complaints from visitors at the police station and forwarded them for appropriate and prompt action. Complainants and accompanying individuals were informed about women safety helplines, emergency services, and preventive measures against cybercrime. Women visiting the station were also encouraged to report any crime immediately to ensure timely police action. She appealed to students, parents, and the general public to approach the police fearlessly in case of any problem or suspicion, emphasising that the police department remains committed to service, safety, and support 24x7.Flowers to traffic violatorsAdditionally, at a police checkpoint on Safidon Road in Jind city, awareness of traffic rules was promoted. Motorcyclists without helmets were given flowers as a symbolic gesture to encourage compliance with traffic regulations and remind citizens of their civic responsibilities.Superintendent of police Kuldeep Singh said such programmes help citizens understand police procedures, build confidence in grievance redressal mechanisms, and promote a positive outlook towards law enforcement. He emphasised that similar initiatives will continue in the future to strengthen law and order, enhance civic awareness, and ensure active public participation in crime prevention.
