Coach booked for sexual harassment

CHANDIGARH: An archery coach in Rohtak has been booked for allegedly sexually harassing and intimidating a girl trainee.

Acting on the complaint of the trainee, a case under sections 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been lodged at Rohtak women police station.

Rohtak superintendent of police (SP)

Rakesh Arya

said investigations were in progress in the matter and an adequate action would follow.

In her complaint to police, the girl alleged that the coach had been making advances towards her and other girls for the past few months. She also alleged that as she resisted his advances, the coach threatened to stop her practice sessions. Police complaint was lodged after a recording of the phone conversation between the victim and the coach went viral. On Tuesday, the girl filed a complaint before the police.

Assistant sub-inspector

Sushila Devi

said the girl had been medically examined and further investigations were in progress. “Since the coach has gone elusive, police parties are conducting raids to round him up,“ she said.

It is the second such incident in Rohtak. Last year, a wushu player had alleged sexual harassment by her coach and an associate.

The incident happened in December 2015 and the accused are facing trial in a local court.

Accused identified as Rajesh (coach) and Sandeep were booked under section 354 A of the IPC at women police station at Rohtak, police said.
