CM scheme saves life of Bathinda newborn

Bathinda: A private hospital in Rampura Phool town in Bathinda district has cured a premature low-birth-weight baby under Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, with the parents needing nothing to spend on critical care treatment.As per a press release on Sunday, the newborn baby of Resham Singh and Gurmail Kaur was only 1.926 kg at birth, below the normal weight of a baby at birth at 2.5-4 kg. The baby boy had severe respiratory distress, and it was found that breathing was not possible without medical support. Dr Surender Aggarwal, with his team, acted swiftly, and the baby was shifted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where machines supported what the underdeveloped lungs could not yet perform. As every moment was critical, the baby was put under close observation for 17 days. The newborn required continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) support for 10 days, followed by oxygen support for another four days. During this period, neonatal jaundice developed and was treated with phototherapy. Feeding was carefully supported through limited Kangaroo Mother Care."In the NICU, progress does not come in leaps. It comes quietly, one stable reading at a time. Slowly, signs of improvement began to appear," states Dr Aggarwal.After 17 days of intensive treatment, the baby was discharged a couple of days ago in stable condition, now weighing 2.106 kg, still delicate but significantly stronger and recovering.
