Classical music exponents enthral audience at Spic-Macay meet
Ludhiana: Spic-Macay (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among youth) held its North Zone Convention from October 27 to 28. The first day of the convention saw schools from major northern states like Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttar Pradesh engage in a stimulating session with Dr Kiran Seth.
Oscar winning film ‘Bicycle Thieves’ by Italian director Vittorio De Sica was screened on Friday as part of Spic-Macay’s Classic Cinema Screening. Later, a group discussion was held to criticially review the movie. On Saturday evening, great exponents of Hindustani Classical Music performed before an august gathering.
Vidushi Rani Khanam, a sensitive and astute interpreter of Kathak’s Lucknow Gharana acquainted the audience with the glorious past of the Kathak dance form. She was accompanied by Pradeep Mishra on tabla, Zoheb Hasan on vocal, and Ajeet Mishra on padhant.
In the second half of the session, Pandit Kaivalaya Kumar Gurav, the youngest Hindustani Classical vocalist enthralled everyone with his soulful renditions. He was accompanied by Ashish Sengupta on tabla and Rajendra Benerjee on harmonium.
