CHANDIGARH: Chandan Singh, a CITCO security officer, who was accused of killing a canteen helper on August 7 this year, surrendered before a local court here on Saturday, after being on the run for over two months.
He was remanded to police custody for two days.
Police said they had been on his trail and were building pressure on him to surrender.
Chandan Singh reportedly told the police that he had been staying in Haridwar all this while.
Police will now investigate any other motive behind the crime and also will locate the the weapon of offence, if any.
Chandan Singh has been accused of murdering Budhi Singh, whose body was found near the CITCO office in Sector 17.
Initially, the police treated it as a case natural death, but when the post mortem pointed to death due to strangulation, a case of murder was registered.
Chandan Singh was the first to report that Budh Singh''s body was lying near CITCO office.
After investigations, he came under scanner and then went underground.
Police had said that both Chandan Singh and the deceased used to drink heavily, and the former used to object to Budh Singh''s over night stay in the canteen.
Police had suspected that both of them could have been drunk and had an argument, which led to the murder.
Police had questioned the accused''s brother and his sons.
The warrant officer appointed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court had even raided the Sector 17 police station to secure the release of Chandan''s son.
