Panchkula: Three girls from Chandigarh bagged the top three spots in a drawing competition held at the 29th Mango Mela which started at Pinjore Gardens on Friday.
Saanvi from AKIPS, 41 B, Chandigarh, Annvi from GMSSS, Sector 21, Chandigarh and Angel Sharma from Government Model School, Housing Board, Chandigarh bagged the first, second and third spot in the drawing competition in the 6 to 12 year age group category.
In the Rangoli competition, the first spot was bagged by Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School, Sector 20, Panchkula, second prize went to Amrawati Vidhalaya, Amrawati, Panchkula and the third prize went to DC Model School, Sector 7, Panchkula.
The 29th edition of the Mango Mela was inaugurated by Kanwar Pal, minister of tourism, forest, education and parliamentary affairs, Haryana. Punjabi singers Kanwar Grewal will perform on July 9 and Akhil on July 10.
For the first time, a delegation from Israel participated in the event. It was led by Rony Yedidia Clein, charge d’affairs, embassy of Israel, New Delhi, who also inaugurated the mango exhibition area. The visit culminated with a tour of the historic Yadavindra Gardens.
More than 2,000 entries for various competitions have been received. Enthusiastic participation was seen on the first day of the Mango mela with events like drawing competition, Rangoli competition, Dance competition and mango quiz. Students performed to catchy Bollywood, Punjabi and classical songs.
Songs and dances of Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana were highly appreciated. A separate section devoted to display and sale of mangoes was quite popular with visitors checking out new hybrid/variegated varieties.
