Chandigarh to host comedy theatre fest

CHANDIGARH: "Hasyam," the three-day annual comedy theatre festival organised by Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi in alliance with the department of cultural affairs, Chandigarh and Tagore Theatre Society, Chandigarh will be held from April 25 to 27, at Tagore Theatre at 6:30pm.
Entry is free. The festival will feature three comedy plays performed by notable artists from across the country, said chairman, Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi Atul Sharma. Sharma said that they are working to enhance the popularity of theatre among people of diverse age groups.
To achieve this, he said, they organise workshops for schoolchildren and provide opportunities for aspiring playwrights. Three plays will be presented in the forthcoming performance.
A play based on the novel "Budhbhas" by Pakistani author Shaukat Thanvi, "Bade Miyan Deewane" by Rangbaaz Production, Mumbai and directed by Imran Rasheed follows an eccentric octogenarian who falls in love with a young woman who is also his son's love interest.
The play "Udhar Ka Pati" by Veena Pani Kala Mandir in Jaipur is directed by Tapan Bhatt.
