Chandigarh Police make surprise transfers; orders issued over phone
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh police department carried out a series of transfers of inspectors and station house officers (SHOs) on Friday night and late Saturday, but in an unusual move, no formal transfer list was issued. For the first time in the city, all inspectors received their transfer orders over the phone instead of through an official document. Sources said even before any list was released, discussions had already begun within the department, with congratulatory messages being exchanged and speculation circulating about new postings and who would take charge as SHO at various stations.Among the key transfers, Sector 3 police station SHO Narinder Patiyal was shifted to the crime branch. Inspector Jaspal Bhullar was moved from the District Crime Cell (DCC) to take over as SHO of Sector 11 police station. Inspector Sher Singh was transferred from the PO Cell and posted as SHO of Sector 49 police station. Inspector Ram Ratan was given charge of the PO Cell along with responsibility for the police lines in Sector 26. Inspector Davinder Singh was appointed in charge of the cyber police station and designated as crime in-charge. Inspector Iram Rizvi was transferred from the cyber cell to police headquarters in Sector 9. Inspector Chiranji Lal was assigned responsibility for the DCC Cell. Additionally, inspector Sanjeev Kumar, who was recently acquitted by the high court in a CBI bribe case, was posted as SHO of Sector 3 police station.
According to sources, the transfers came after Chandigarh DGP Dr Sagar Preet Hooda held a meeting attended by all senior officers. During the meeting, he referred to postings at Sector 34 police station and said that many recommendations were being made for postings there. The DGP stated clearly that recommendations would not influence postings and that officers who worked honestly would automatically receive good assignments.Sources also said that the transfer of these eight inspectors and SHOs was unexpected. Names of several other inspectors were circulating within the department, but the final postings went to different officers. According to reliable sources, some inspectors had attempted to secure postings as SHOs by seeking recommendations, but none of these efforts succeeded before the DGP's decision.
